On May 25, 2008, an EF5 tornado destroyed much of Parkersburg.

A vast majority of the homes destroyed were rebuilt. The community continues to rebuild and move forward, but because of the immense strain the tornado has put on the city resources certain items have lost priority. Years later, the youth of Parkersburg still feel the effects.

Iowa’s First All-Inclusive Sports Complex

Miracle League of Cedar Valley

The non-profit organization, Diamonds and Fields, was founded in 2012 with the vision of creating the Cedar Valley’s first all-inclusive sports complex. A complex where youth of all abilities participate side-by-side as they develop and grow.

The communities of Aplington and Parkersburg are in need of tremendously improved fields, and the only two wheelchair accessible ball diamonds in Iowa are located in the Des Moines metro. Diamonds and Fields has been determined from the beginning to bring the Cedar Valley – and the entire state of Iowa – its first sports complex built from the ground up with youth of all abilities in mind.

Ballpark Progress
