A lot is happening with the progress of the Parkersburg sports complex. Fundraising has been steady for a couple of years now with quite an uptick in the amount of dollars coming in for the project. The overall anticipated cost to build the new complex is $1.45M. We’re glad to report that Diamonds and Fields has now raised 60% of the funds with opportunities for significant donations through private donations and grants in within the next few months. So stay tuned for more announcements to come soon on the fundraising front.
Speaking of announcements, at our recent charity wheelchair basketball game with local athletes – including Sportability of Iowa – we unveiled the name and logo for the new complex. It is All Play Ballpark. In deciding the name we wanted something that 1) indicates the goal of the new sports complex – a place for everyone to play, no matter if you walk, run, or wheel, and 2) maintains the identity of our great Aplington-Parkersburg community.
Our plan is to break ground for All Play Ballpark this fall, giving us the chance to hear “play ball” by the fall of 2016.
